I am so tired of all the media coverage around Michael Vick’s “alleged” involvement in dog fighting. If he is guilty, I hope he gets the proper punishment for the crime he has committed. However, I feel as though he is not going to get a fair shake because of his celebrity. Despite what the courts may say, when you are a high profile personality, and particularly one of color, you are guilty until proven innocent. Now don’t get it twisted. I’m not taking up for Vick. As a matter of fact, I actually think he sucks! Michael Vick is just as big of a delinquent as his younger brother Marcus. The only difference is that Mike has had more folks looking out for him because of his talent, marketability, and his overall economic worth. Nevertheless, delinquent or not, he is still entitled to a fair trial.
I wonder if the feds prosecute everyone who commits this heinous crime with the same energy and the full extent of the law.
My final thoughts… I love animals, but I think the folks at PETA, and the other animal rights extremists, are the biggest wastes of time. A majority of these basket cases care more about animals than they do people. According to MSNBC, we had over 744,000 people classified as homeless in the United States in 2005. In addition, there are millions of starving people in countries across the world. How about the extremists exerting some of that over-the-top energy towards a greater cause.
